Last month we learned that we'd been nominated for the Spirit of Sherwood award for Services to the Community. This is an annual event organised by Sherwood, Carrington and Mapperley Park Neighbourhood Watch, to foster community spirit. It was great to be nominated, although none of us expected to win, as we were up against some extremely good groups. A few of us met up at the Crimson Tree for the awards on Tuesday 23rd July, together with all the other worthy nominees from the area. When the winner was announced, we were amazed to hear our name read out! Pauline our chair was unfortunately not there for the announcement, which was met with a lot of noise from our corner. Frances, Anna and Lindsey accepted the award, and we said a few words of thanks to everyone who voted for us (which can be seen towards the end of the live film of the event, on the SCAMP Facebook page), and when Pauline arrived we had more photos taken. It was a great evening for everyone, and we went home feeling really happy that our event had been been celebrated. The photos are of Pauline, Frances and Lindsey, and the happy little group in the corner .. with Kathy, Pamela, Barbara and Chrissie. A million thanks to everyone who helped us, and especially to everyone who came on the day. Till next time!

Sherwood Open Gardens has officially handed over the money raised from the event on 8th June to Heather Slater from Stonebridge City Farm and Tori Howard from Framework. Pauline and I were happy to present them with their cheques, and they asked us to pass on their thanks for all the hard work. They both live in Sherwood, so it was a local affair for them! It's four weeks since our first open gardens event in Sherwood, and we're very happy to announce that the final total of money taken on the day was £3,868.17. This was made up of wristband sales, refreshments, plants and artist and stall fees, and donations. Arrangements are being made to present the money to representatives of Framework and Stonebridge City Farm. This photo taken in my garden by Fran our runner, is a reminder of a grey but happy day!
A message from Pauline and the committee:
The first Sherwood Open Gardens opened and closed its gates on Saturday 8th June and is now firmly on the map for the future. Thanks to our brilliant and supportive Sherwood community and the many people who travelled to see what Sherwood had to offer. THANK YOU. As the team, garden hosts, artists and volunteers awoke on Saturday morning to lashings of rain, surrounded by soggy borders, art installations and stacks of homemade cakes our hearts may have sank but we know the Sherwood community wouldn't let a bit of rain stop you exploring the creative gardens and green spaces we have here in Sherwood. It was uplifting for us all to see the hundreds of visitors to our gardens, filling the streets, consulting brochure maps, wondering where to go next. We are still not sure how much money we have raised for our charities Stonebridge City Farm and Framework but we will keep you posted over the next few weeks. Again THANK YOU to everyone who supported this event. The Team Pauline Mordue Lindsey Lukehurst Frances Warburton All the garden hosts Volunteers and sponsors We'd like to extend our thanks and great appreciation for all their help and support, to Mapperley Open Gardens, Lady Bay Open Gardens, Anna Bayleaf and Mo Cooper
We are very pleased to be able to announce that our funding application to Nottingham City Council has been accepted, and we thank the council very much for its support. We will also be raising funds ourselves, the first of which will be our plant sale at Sherwood Street Market on Saturday 16th March .. please come and buy some plants for your gardens and help us with Sherwood Open Gardens!
Hi everyone
Thank you to everyone who nominated and voted for a charity. The two charities that received the highest number of votes were: Stonebridge City Farm and Framework. Sherwood Open Gardens 2019 will be raising money for these two charities. Best wishes Frances on behalf of Sherwood Open Gardens We are currently pursuing funding from various quarters, and will be posting news regularly. Please check back to see what is planned.
